President's Report

Our meetings resume at Crown Street Stables this coming Wednesday 20th January at 7.30am.

As with the last meeting in December, members are asked to purchase their food and drink from the cafe and then make their way upstairs to the loft via the glass doors near the elevator.  If you wish to pre order food, just call or email Jan at CSS.

Op Shop.

Edith, Betty and our amazing volunteers are back at work as are Lorry and her team at Werribee.  Sales have been surprisingly strong.

We are in need of more volunteers, especially Rotarians/partners who could take charge for a day.  Any assistance would be gratefully received.

Eshantha and Sputnik
Eshantha and family with the girls from Sputnik.
Peter Cribb sent through this latest photo of Eshantha.  He was the spark which lit the fire which has become RORP.  The girls at the orphanage/school, with their families are very grateful for the playground and the wonderful container full of educational materials which we sent to them.

PDG Senake and Rotarians from Colombo formally handing over the first container of hospital beds to the Sri Lankan Minister for Health.
RORP
Container #5 has arrived in Sri Lanka and the playgrounds are now in storage awaiting relocation through the country.
There have been some issues recently with importing playgrounds however, PDG Senake is working with the Government on this.
As well as our core RORP team of Sam, Shradd, Peter, Lyn and Jon;  volunteers from other clubs and districts as well as our industrial supporters have worked tirelessly to continue the program.
This photo shows some members from Drouin Rotary who had a funny tale to tell.  They were collecting a p0layground and were chased and stopped by the police who though that their trailer was one which had been stolen from the area.  Seeing the honest faces and Rotary gear, they soon realised their error.  Former member Chris Drenen was glad to assist here.

Western Emergency Relief Network
WERN has relocated to a new site due to the Derrimut site being reclaimed by the owners. The new address is Factory 11, 11 Rockfield Way, RAVENHALL, 3023.
The property’s entrance is the last in the complex on the bend of Rockfield Way on the left hand side of the road. Signage is difficult to locate so please look for our temporary sign out the front and WERN is the second factory in.

The store reopens for business and collections on Tuesday 19th January.  If you can help even for a short-while please give our Warehouse Manager, David a call on 0476 104 736 or email me directly on administration@wern.org to arrange either casual or more regular positions.

January is Vocational Service Month
Vocational Service is the cornerstone of Rotary and was the key to the beginning of the Rotary ethos of service above self. Rotary's founder Paul Harris recognised that people could use their vocation to help others in the community and thus Rotary was formed and has been serving its local and international community for over 100 years.
