Madam President
I hope this newsletter finds you well.

As we approach the launch of our Food and Friends community dinner, we are actively seeking volunteers from our Club to assist with both food preparation and service. Your contribution is vital to the success of this initiative, and we encourage all interested members to get involved.

This month, we are fortunate to welcome Kerrie Hicks as guest speaker at our Fellowship dinner on 15th October, 6pm at The Plough Hotel, 333 Barkly Street, Footscray.

Kerrie is a member of the Rotary Club of Central Melbourne, and an Executive coach, bringing a wealth of life experience to share with us. I strongly encourage all members to attend and bring along a friend to what will be an enjoyable event.

Take care, and I look forward to seeing you all soon.

FOOD AND FRIENDS:
This exciting and much need program is a partnership between MVCC - Djerring Hub and ourselves with support from LIFE Church West Melbourne.

Induction is on Monday 6th October at 11am at the Djerring Hub, 25 Mount Alexander Road, Flemington.  Do not be concerned if you can't make this date as we can induct you at a later time.

Food preparation training sessions will be held on the following Mondays: 13th, 20th, and 27th October, from 9:30am at LIFE Church, 41/59 Sims Street, West Melbourne. These sessions are designed to equip volunteers with the necessary skills for food preparation and service, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Launch will be on Wednesday 12th November.  Cooking and meal preparation 12-3, serving 4-7.

After the project launches, we kindly ask each volunteer to commit to one three-hour shift per month. This small dedication of your time will make a significant difference in the success of our community dinners.

If you are able to join us as a volunteer, please contact me at your earliest convenience. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Last week's meeting:
We gathered at The Plough and were very glad to welcome Len back to our evening meetings.  We also welcomed a friend of Fran's, Helen, to learn some more about Rotary.

Lenka and Carla came along and Lenka told us about her first 2 months in Australia.  She is excelling at school: achieving very strong results {despite not studying the first semester curriculum} including stratospheric scores in Math and Philosophy..

Djerring Hub Sports and Games Day:
Mel, Len, Karolina and Lesley helped with the sausage sizzle at the school holiday sports program.

Thanks to Donations in Kind, we also handed out drink bottles and sports bags to children.

Donations in Kind:
Peter and Lesley continue to volunteer most Tuesdays.  Donations in Kind currently have an excess of new clothing and are encouraging clubs to identify opportunities to donate this both locally and internationally.

A new opportunity is very good quality linen from the Roy Hill Mining Camp in WA thanks to the Mill Point Rotary Club in Perth.  Sets of single beds linen are available {potential project anyone?}

Donations in Kind recently supported our project to supply books for children through Djerring Hub with 3 cartons of picture story and junior fiction.

These books help with increasing literacy and vocabulary for children living in the high rise.

RORP NEWS:
Peter continues to work with John Farmery and Jean Turnbull on proformas for the new RORP9800 cell.

He has had contact from a contractor for harvesting in Melton.  Please let Peter know if you are available to assist with extraction!
On another note, RORP is now established in Forbes NSW!  The Forbes Shire Council is very keen and has drafted some media.

Update from Lenka:  Lenka is on school holidays.

Carla attended Parent Teacher interviews with her and was delighted with the discussions.  As expected Leka is excelling with very strong scores on all SACs and schoolwork.  She has commented that maybe, she needs to get a life!

She has been to Camp Getaway with Rotary Keilor East and their student Malene, and to Glenrowan with Carla and Scott to visit Carla's family.

OP SHOP REPORT:
We are delighted to report that the building works have now finished at the child care centre next to us.  PLAKKIT will post new event posters this week, and the car park will be open again on Saturdays.

Nahla has returned from her trip home to Iran and is refreshed and glad to be back with us.

We have had a revamp upstairs with changes to menswear, displays and a declutter. Many thanks to Laura, Vinh and Rui for this refresh.

The windowMay be an image of hat and hat shop displays are featuring Spring Racing Carnival outfits and hats and are eye catching!

Business is increasing and we have seen more foot traffic and sales in recent weeks:  Sales for the quarter have been over $10k.

We have registered for the Great Garage Sale Trail on Saturdays 8th and 15th November - watch this space!

Trip to Nepal and Sri Lanka
Unfortunately, the club delegation trip was cancelled due to the civil unrest in Nepal and the recommendation from DFAT: Reconsider your need to travel.
Disappointingly, Sri Lankan Airlines were not helpful with rescheduling/cancellation so we are all out of pocket and awaiting refunds.
Shraddha continues to liaise with Rotary Tripureswor and it is hoped a trip to visit the schools will be organised in 2026.
