Madam President
Spring has sprung and hopefully so has your enthusiasm for our Club!
There is a plethora of activities in the next couple of months that need your support.  Please consider seriously how you can assist us in bringing these events and projects to fruition.

Recently I have been working with the Djerring Hub to establish a community food program. "Food and Friends", commencing mid-November, is a meal service offered to 150 people in Flemington and nearby communities.
This project will run fortnightly on Wednesday evenings and we will require volunteers to assist with a 3 hour shift from 12-7pm.   Duties will include cooking, cleaning, serving and liaising with the public.
Training will be provided and will commence in October.  This request for volunteers has been extended to our cluster clubs, but it is our pilot project so we as members really need to get behind this.
If you are interested and want to know more, please call me on 0402 752 257.

I look forward to seeing you at the next Fellowship dinner on Wednesday 17th September at The Plough Hotel, Footscray.

Due to so many people being away, we have decided to cancel the breakfast meeting scheduled for Wednesday 1 October.

Melina
Last week's meeting:
It was lovely to welcome Len and Josie back to us this week.

President Melina had the pleasure of formally inducting John Farmery as a member.  John has volunteered on many occasions already this year from Peace Poles, to Bunnings and assisting Peter with RORP.  Welcome John!

Thank you, Josie, for collecting the name badge.
Mel also spoke about the new Food and Friends project which will start in November at Djerring Hub.

Ryda
Tuesday 9th saw Drew, Fran, Hayden and Jess, John, Karolina and Lesley participate in the program with Buckley Park College students at the Greyhound Racing venue in Broadmeadows.

Over the 6 sessions, the students heard about the numbers of young people killed and injured in road accidents; their role as a friend and peer support; the effects of fatigue, inattention, phones and music and road conditions.  They experienced role play and group discussions to embed the learning and watched on as a speed and braking test challenged their understanding of braking distances.
Thanks to Anton and the team of presenters from RSE.       READ MORE

Donations in Kind:
Last week, Shraddha, Peter and Lesley greeted Nepalese Consul Mr Nirajan Gauli at Donations in Kind.  They gave him a tour and discussed opportunities for collaboration and how DiK had assisted with items for Nepal during our trip.
We were joined by RC Footscray President Elizabeth Drozd.

Packing for Nepal and Sri Lanka
Last Friday, Beate, Lesley, Peter, Shraddha, Elizabeth and Maria met at the Op Shop to pack donated clothing for the children on our trip.  The wonderful volunteers Vinh and Rui had already helped pack 3 bags and had organised beanies and socks into bundles too.  Each of us has taken a suitcase/bag filled with warm jackets, beanies and socks.  We also have picture story books, coloured pencils, and some games to share.
Our sincere thanks to Donations in Kind for their generous support for this project.  We have new warm winter jackets, hand knitted with love beanies, socks and beanies for every child!
