Access to books and stories is a vital component of children's learning before school.
Without oral and written stories, conversation and vocabulary, children are unable to access the rich cultural, social and general knowledge needed for effective language development.

Unfortunately, in our community there are many children who do not have access to this rich resource and do not have the required vocabulary or English language capability at school start.
Flemington Kensington Rotarians are keen to help redress this lack and in conjunction with the Maternal and Child Health Nurses are providing picture story books to children at the regular visits.

Books are obtained from a number of generous supporters, and from members, family and friends, our Op Shops, other Rotary clubs and booksellers.

Since the inception of this project 18 months ago, over 5,000 books have been provided to the Maternal and Child Health Centres at Hopetoun Street, Wingate Avenue and Maribyrnong Road.

More books are needed.  If you can assist with good quality picture story books for children birth to 6 years please contact us.
