Ascot Vale West Sensory Garden
A Rotary Foundation Grant has doubled the impact of our funds and assisted in the creation of a magnificent sensory garden for students at Ascot Vale West Primary School.

Children, parents, teachers and Rotarians combined over 4 separate days to clear the old garden beds, build new sleeper edging, refresh soil, move rocks, build wicking beds and install the buddy bench.  Then they planted 3 mature Crepe Myrtles, hauled the wicking beds into place and created the perfect growing media with liners, scoria and soil.
After laying fresh soil and mulch, lilydale toping was spread.

Children planted a variety of fragrant herbs and plants donated by Bunnings Maribyrnong and together with Student Welfare Coordinator Kristy and gardener Amanda, are learning about plants, their needs and watering and weeding the gardens.  All students benefit from the Buddy Bench - a place of friendship, peace and chat.
